How a trade-in works

  1. Choose our cards. Add singles from the shop to your trade with “Add to trade”. Trades start at $125 of our cards.
  2. List the cards you’re trading in. Search for each one or paste a list. Each card is priced at its TCG low for its printing, finish and condition, and you see the estimate as you go.
  3. We review and approve. You get 80% of that total as credit toward the cards you picked. Once you confirm, our cards are reserved for you.
  4. Ship your cards, or meet us. Mail them tracked, or bring them to a meetup in the St. Louis area. We check every card and send a final offer that lists any change and why; you decide, and anything your credit doesn’t cover is paid by card.

Trades start at $125 of our cards. At 80% credit, that takes $156.25 of your cards at TCG low to cover completely; if yours come to less, you pay the difference by card, and if they come to more, the extra stays in your account as store credit.

How your cards are valued

Every card is priced at its TCG low, TCGplayer’s lowest listed price for that exact printing and finish, then adjusted for condition. Your trade credit is 80% of the result.

How 80% store credit compares

Most buyers pay less for cards they will resell, and most pay more in credit than in cash. Here is how the usual options line up for a card with a $100 TCG low, in near-mint condition.

Frequently asked questions

What cards can I trade in?

Staples: Magic: The Gathering singles worth $10+ each at TCG low, in their condition. We're not taking bulk. We match every card to its exact printing and finish, so search for yours or paste a list when you build your trade.

How is my trade credit worked out?

When we review your list, we price each of your cards at its TCG low (TCGplayer's lowest listed price) for its condition and finish. Your trade credit is 80% of that. The estimates you see while you build your trade use today's market prices, so they're a rough guide.

How do you decide my cards' condition?

From when each printing came out: Near Mint under 3 years old, Lightly Played 3 to 10 years, Moderately Played 10 to 20 years, Heavily Played 20 years or older. When your cards arrive we check every one, and a card in better or worse shape is worth more or less. Your final offer shows every change and why.

Is there a minimum trade?

Yes: at least $125 of our cards per trade, at their regular prices (shipping doesn't count toward it). You can add cards below that while you shop; you'll need to reach it to start your trade. At 80% trade credit, $125 of our cards takes $156.25 of your cards at TCG low to cover completely.

Do my cards have to cover everything I pick?

No. If your credit falls short, you pay the rest by card at the end, after you've accepted our final offer.

What if my cards are worth more than the cards I picked?

Credit left over stays in your account as store credit for your next order. It isn't paid out in cash.

When are the cards I picked reserved for me?

When you confirm your approved trade. While you build your trade and while we review it, our cards stay on sale. Once we approve it you have 48 hours to confirm (Sundays don't count). If a card sells before you confirm, we'll tell you and you can pick another.

How long do I have to ship my cards?

3 days from confirming, and Sundays don't count: confirm on a Friday at 2 PM and you'd ship by Tuesday at 2 PM. It counts as shipped when the carrier scans your package; a label on its own doesn't. After 3 completed trades you get 4 days, and after 10, 5 days.

Is there a deposit?

Trades with $300.00 or more of our cards need a small refundable deposit to confirm. It's refunded in full, to your card, as soon as the carrier accepts your package by your shipping deadline, and declining our final offer never costs it. If you cancel after confirming and before shipping, or don't ship in time, it may be kept under our cancellation policy; a person reviews every case first. Smaller trades may need one too after earlier trades were canceled or not shipped.

Who pays for shipping?

You ship your cards to us at your cost, with tracking (we'll show you how to pack them). Our cards ship to you tracked: $3.99, or free on $200 or more of our cards. It's paid by card when your trade is final, never out of your trade credit, and never charged on a trade that's canceled or declined.

What if my cards arrive in a different condition, or one is missing?

We check every card when it arrives. One in better shape than listed is worth more, and one in worse shape is worth less; a card that's missing, wrong or not genuine can't be taken. Your final offer lists every change and why, and you decide whether to accept it.

What if I don't like the final offer?

Ask us to take another look, or decline it. If you decline the final offer, or we can't accept a card, we'll mail those cards back to you. We'll confirm any return shipping cost with you before we send them. We never keep a card you haven't agreed to trade.

Can I cancel a trade?

Yes. Before you confirm, it costs nothing. After you confirm, our cards are reserved for you, so canceling before you ship counts against future trades, and a deposit on the trade may be kept under our cancellation policy (we review every case). Once the carrier has your package you can still cancel with no penalty, and we'll mail your cards back.

Can I trade in person?

Yes, in the St. Louis area: choose local pickup when you start your trade. You don't list your cards; once we approve the trade, we hold our cards for you until we meet, and we set a time to meet at our meeting spot, Schnuck's at Olive and Mason, 12756 Olive Blvd St. Louis, MO 63141. Bring your cards and we'll value each one at its TCG low for the condition we see, together. Anything your 80% trade credit doesn't cover is paid then, in cash or by card. There's no deposit and no shipping. Local pickup trades run on their own terms: 80% trade credit, staples worth $10+ each at TCG low, and at least $100 of our cards.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Trades live in your account, where you'll see every card, price, message and deadline.
